DWI Coordinator for the Westchester County DA’s Office
From 2007 to 2019, Michael served as the DWI Coordinator for the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. In that role, he was personally responsible for training every Assistant District Attorney and law enforcement officer in Westchester County on New York DWI law and procedures. Few criminal defense attorneys in Westchester County have held that specific institutional role inside the county’s own prosecution infrastructure. When he challenges how a field sobriety test was administered or how a DWI arrest was processed, he’s drawing on the same body of knowledge he used to train the officers and prosecutors on the other side of the courtroom.
That institutional knowledge is reinforced by his NHTSA certifications: Michael completed the NHTSA DWI/SFST practitioner course (24 hours) and the NHTSA DWI/ARIDE course (16 hours). These are the same certifications held by the officers who conduct those tests. He has also served as a guest speaker at multiple CLE programs for attorneys and law enforcement, including presentations on DWI Pringle Hearings, Hardship Hearings, and examination of DWI witnesses.
Appellate Division Committee Appointment
Michael was appointed by Presiding Justice Hon. A. Gail Prudenti to serve on the Committees on Character and Fitness of the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department. This judicial appointment, held by very few practicing defense attorneys in New York, places him in an advisory role to the court itself, evaluating prospective bar members and attorneys subject to reinstatement proceedings. It reflects a level of institutional standing that goes beyond bar membership.
Prosecutorial Leadership Across Westchester County
Michael served as Supervisor for three DA branch offices: New Rochelle, Northern Westchester, and Yorktown. He also acted as legal advisor to more than 20 police agencies across Westchester County. He graduated cum laude from St. John’s University School of Law in 1995 and remains an active member of the Westchester County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
